Happy New Year everyone. We took a trip before Christmas and I swear absolutely everyone was passing me. I noticed it even before getting out of Ballarat. Speedo said 110kmh and the speed check thing told me 106. That confirmed it for me. As I was putting my foot down to nudge up to 114 on the speedo, hubby chimed in with "At least we won't get a speeding ticket." Nobody passed me in the Camry (and it wasn't because it was red!) Anyone have any clue on what my next step should be? We did time how long it took to do 5km at 100kmh (in a 100 zone) and it took 3 minutes. That seems right, but I was still being passed. On the way back to Ballarat, the speed check thing on that side of the road said 105kmh when I was doing 110. I'm so paranoid now when people are on my tail in town. I'm not inclined to get tickets, but I do have a lead foot and this is really irking me. I don't suffer slowpokes very well.

Yes, Happy new year to all. Ok, well firstly, justtt so you know... this is normal behaviour for the magna speedo. Theres nothing wrong with the calibration. It is set like this from factory. The first step to altering this would be checking tyre pressure. I always run mine higher than factory spec for the sake of handling and tyre life, as it reduces rolling resistance. It can also change fuel economy for the better. The reason it changes the speedo reading is that it changes the contact patch of the tyre. It can alter the speedo reading by up to about 6km/h but only in extreme circumstances. (eg if your factoy pressure is 30psi, but your tyres are underinflated at 18psi) The factory quoted pressures for my car are around 30psi i think... i usually run them at between 34-36psi. The reason that the factory quotes it at that is to compromise between ride quality and tyre life. Next stage is to get the speedo recalibrated by a specialist. And the final stage is to accept the car the way it is. Get used to travelling with the needle pointing at 114. And don't get personal with other drivers (like i do ) no need to drag em on the freeway hehe. Also remember, 9/10 cars drive faster than the limit anyway.
